Darrell is an 1990 graduate of Carrollton’s R.L. Turner High School, where he was all district pitcher. Darrell then went on to play at Rice University, where he was 1st team all American and 1st team all southwest conference. Darrell then signed to play Major League baseball. After returning from pro ball, Darrell began giving professional baseball instruction. In 1997 Darrell Joined the University of Dallas coaching staff as pitching coach. During his 4 seasons at UD, Darrell made a tremendous impact on the development of his pitching staff. Under his direction the UD pitching staff set A.S.C. ERA records 2 years in a row, with an ERA of 2.80 at the end of the 2001 season. Darrell had 3 of his pitching staff members named conference MVP’s, 7 all conference pitchers and 4 players drafted. Darrell opened the Baseball Academy in December of 2001 to teach players his love of the game.
