Coppell Cowboys – Slaton went 5-1 on the weekend and took 2nd at the Tara Sawyer Memorial Tournament. The boys played great! They were exceptional in every phase of the game outscoring their opponents 42-7 to get into the championship game. They came up just short in the championship game but kept playing hard all the way to the end. We are extremely proud of the effort and attitude these boys showed over this long weekend of baseball. Coppell Cowboys 10U Red Wins USSSA State Championship Tournament It only took 15 hours and five baseball games in one day for the Coppell Cowboys 10U Red to win the USSSA Baseball State Championship (10U AA) on June 11, 2017. The Cowboys beat the Texas Titans, 9-2, to collect their HUGE championship ring. “Dr.” Drew Minnick pitched all four innings in the Championship game, only allowing three hits and two runs (only one earned). This was the second tournament championship game Minnick has started and won this season for the Cowboys. In the Championship game, Caleb “CK-1” Klibert, Grant “G-Money” Gilbert, and Austin “Bear” MacLean each scored two runs, leading the team in scoring. Will “T-Rex” Trevathan led the team with two hits, going 2-2 and also scoring a run. Zander “Z-Man” Zeff led the team with two RBI. The Cowboys entered bracket play as the 12th seed of 22 teams. Because of rain, pool play was reduced to one game. The Cowboys tied GATA, 6-6. As the 12th seed, they won their first game 17-1 against the NTX Dogs. Klibert, “Iron” Caden Forsythe, and Gilbert combined for a no-hitter, allowing one run (unearned) and striking out 4. Klibert and Trevathan led the team with 3 RBI each. The next game in bracket play was the closest of the day. The Cowboys beat Southern Elite II, 5-2. Brandon “Big Breakfast” Livingston pitched 3.2 innings, only allowing 4 hits and 2 runs (one earned) while striking out five. Will “The Thrill” Stevens shut the door on the Elite, striking out the only hitter he faced. Braden “Playmaker” Stokes led the team in hitting, going 2-2 and scoring two runs. The Cowboys kept rolling behind Stevens in the third game. Stevens pitched four innings, only allowing 4 hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out three. The Cowboys defeated the Dugout, 8-3, to send the team to the semi-final. Stokes again led the team in hitting, going 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. The Cowboys, playing their fourth game of the day, looked even more energized. The Cowboys wanted the championship, winning 10-1 against the Stingrays 10U. Nate “Terminator” Cook took the mound and dominated, throwing a no-hitter and only giving up one earned run. He struck out 6. Klibert, Trevathan, Minnick, and Forsythe collected two hits apiece to lead the team. Five games in 15 hours. The Cowboys never tired. They played hard every moment, each win fueling the team. Congratulations to the Coppell Cowboys 10U Red winning the USSSA 10U AA State Championship. 10U Coppell Cowboys Red Wins USSSA Trophy Hunter Tournament The Coppell Cowboys 10U Red didn't have to go shopping for Father's Day this year. They delivered the 10AA championship for the USSSA Trophy Hunter Tournament in Colleyville on June 19. The Cowboys won 6-4 against the Colleyville Elite to claim their second championship in as many weeks. Nate "Terminator" Cook received the nod from Coach Derek Brandow for the championship start. He pitched 3 2/3 innings of 3-hit ball while striking out nine. With the tying run in the on-deck circle, Nate gave way to Will "The Thrill" Stevens. The Colleyville Elite were still not going quietly. Emotions grew high as the potential winning run reached the batter’s box. Stevens got the sign and threw the pitch. The batter stroked a hard grounder to the right side. Second baseman Zander "Z-Man" Zeff attacked the ball, scooped it up on a hop and threw it to first for the out and the championship. During pool and bracket play, the Cowboys never relinquished the lead. The Cowboys won their pool games 15-2 and 15-6. During bracket play, the Cowboys won their first game 19-2. In the semifinal, the Cowboys beat the NTX Bandits 12-5. Brandon "Big Breakfast" Livingston acted out his scene from the movie, The Natural, smashing a two-run home run over the fence that broke a bulb in the scoreboard. The home run staked the Cowboys to a 3-0 lead. Livingston pitched four innings of 3 hit ball while striking out eight. Stevens closed the door pitching the final frame after the Cowboys offense exploded for 7 runs in the top of the inning. Will “T-Rex” Trevathan was a wall behind the plate, catching both the semi-final and championship game. Trevathan also dominated on offense, going 9-13 and driving in a team high 10 runs in five games. The Cowboys played aggressive baseball during all five games of the tournament. With one player on vacation and Braden “Playmaker” Stokes limited by injury to only hitting (he went 8-10 in four games), the Cowboys were left with nine players that played every inning, never taking a break during the heat. They all played tough. They all played hard. It was an awesome Father's Day Weekend.
